A while ago I did a post about my grandfather, Frank Ponting, who was in the Grenadier Guards. I explained that although the photos I had shown you were good there was one which my grandmother, Lilian, had in her house which she kept for years until she died.

This is the photo.

As you can see, I think it is the best photo of all,so no wonder my nan had kept it for all those years.

He is tall, over 6ft, and handsome.

She had this photo right above the fireplace and we know she used to 'talk' to him.

She never did get over his death and at such a young age, he was 36 and died of T.B. (Tuberculosis).

I said I would try to get this photo for you, and on mother's day we went down to Oxford and my sister, Yvonne, gave it to me. It is a photo of a photo because it is too large to scan and it was framed.

It is years old.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Thank heavens that people were allowed to photograph soldiers in those days. I believe it is now against the law to take pictures of members of the armed forces (& police).
An excellent print, considering the age....and look at the size of his three stripes!
Cheers......Bernard
