This is a photograph of a rare species of monkey.

It was thought to be extinct but luckily it was spotted in Vietnam's Tung Vai commune along the cruise border.
It is of a Tonkin snub-nosed monkey, which naturally has a narrow, upturned nose and full pink lips.

It is believed to be of an adult monkey, of which there is only about 20, and there has only been sightings of about 2-3 infants.

This photograph was taken in April 2008.

The reason for their near extinction is believed to be because of bush meat hunting and demand for parts of the animal for traditional medicine.

It would be such a shame if they were hunted to extinction, wouldn't it?

It would be a big shame but with a population of 20 l doubt that the species will survive anyway.

He is actually very cute, and I am not really a monkey person...

Such a shame we cannot manage our world better than to make animals extinct.
