Ever wondered just how much your employer values you?

Last week at work I went up for my usual break about 10.00a.m. Now, since the smoking ban I do not bother to go out for a ciggie so I just have a bit of cereal and I'm perfectly happy with that.

I went up to the till with my dish of cereal, Rice Crispies to be percise, when Andre, the manager, came up to me and put his arms around me.

"Annette" he said. "congratulations, do you know you've been here for 17 years?"

"Oh yes" I said. "but you get less for murder." I said with a grin.

He ignored this.

He squeezed me a bit nearer to him and with a big grin on his face he said:

"Here, let me buy you your breakfast."

"Thankyou." I said. "Very kind of you."

"Oh, we like to show how much we appreciate long serving staff." He said with a big smile on his face.

I smiled at him as he handed over his card to pay for my breakfast.

Julie ran the price up on the till.

All of 22p.

You're worth it, Annette! At least.

Why did I never meet a woman who was thrilled with me spending less than a quid on a meal?

I quote from your firm's website......"Every ASDA Colleague makes a valued contribution to our business.

To show how much we appreciate this, we've put together one of the best, most comprehensive Rewards and Benefits packages around.

On top of a competitive salary, you'll enjoy benefits that will definitely enhance your finances and lifestyle."

I know ASDA are cheap, but 22p?

Yes, that's ASDA alright!
When I went downstairs and told the girls, how we laughed!

But his heart was in the right place.

It's a pity we weren't in a restaurant.....he could have paid for my meal then, couldn't he?!

What a cheek! Still like you say, his heart was in the right place.
Most I ever got out of my boss was a coffee from the greasy spoon round the corner. How valued I felt....not

I must be very valued at work. My boss buys all my meals. Well, most anyway. I usually can take a break anytime that I want. I work flexible hours and can arrange my days off around the work schedule fairly easily. There are times, though, that I am required to work extra long hours. Sometimes up to 70 hours/week.

Oh yeah, that's right. I almost forgot. I'm self-employed.

PS there are times I'd like to fire me.
